The Central Bank of Ireland wins Universal Design Award at the 2017 RIAI Architecture Awards
The Central Bank of Ireland, North Wall Quay by Henry J Lyons Architects and Elizabeth’s Tree House at Barretstown Fun Camp, by McCauley Daye O’Connell Architects were announced on Friday 23rd June 2017 as the joint winners of the Universal Design Project of 2016. The main aim of the awards celebrate the quality of work carried out by RIAI members in 2016 and highlight the contribution that architects make to society for everyone’s benefit.
O’Herlihy Access Consultancy is delighted to have been involved since 2013 as consultants working directly for the Central Bank of Ireland advising on all aspects of Universal Design. This involved:
- Developing Universal Design Strategies for the Central Bank of Ireland
- Reviewing design proposals and Universal Design requirements
- Development of Universal Design Checklists and facilitating Universal Design workshops with key departments within the Bank (e.g. Facilities management, Security, Catering, Human Resources),
- Working closely with and liaising with Stakeholders in the Bank and Henry J Lyons Architects
- On-going advice and support to the Design Team throughout the project,
- Advising the Bank on how Universal Design can be incorporated into the day to day operations and management of the building,
- Provision of training to staff within the Central Bank of Ireland.
