CoderDojo Accessibility Guide
CoderDojo, a global volunteer-led community of free programming workshops for young people, has recently published the CoderDojo Accessibility Guide which provides guidance on how to make “Dojos” – the open coding clubs – more accessible to a greater number of people. The aim of the guide is to make a Dojo more accessible through listening to participants, making reasonable adjustments, and deciding what works best, in order to ensure all participants have the best possible experience.
The full guide is available to read in both a digital version with a larger font size, and a print-ready version in booklet format. The PDF guides are also screen-reader friendly.
The guidance, for supporting participation in a Dojo, includes:
- Supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD);
- Supporting people with a hearing impairment ;
- Supporting people with a visual impairment;
- Supporting people with a physical disability;
- Supporting people with a learning disability.
The CoderDojo Accessibility Guide provides a good base for making such events more accessible while further research can be carried out using alternative guidelines, which are included within a useful further information section providing a list of disability organisations in Ireland.
