Mental Health Toolkit for Managers
World Mental Health Day which is held on the 10th of October, aims to bring global awareness to mental illness and the major impact it can have on peoples’ lives.
The importance of mental health cannot be overstated, and this day acts as an annual reminder to care for your mental health, and to seek help if you recognise any issues. It also aims to remove the social stigma associated with mental illness through understanding, support and education.
This year, to mark World Mental Health Day, Business Disability Forum, sponsored by Anglo American, launched their “Having Sensitive Conversations” resource. This seven page resource is available online and offers advice and guidance on the following topics:
- Creating a culture of openness and trust.
- Spotting the signs that someone may be in mental distress.
- Planning for and holding sensitive conversations with team members.
- Maintaining boundaries and looking after your own mental health.
This resource will act as an important tool for employers, offering guidance to managers on how to recognise the signs of mental ill-health in team members, and also offers practical advice on how to have conversations with team members about their mental health.
