National Standards Authority of Ireland participate in ‘Stand4All’ training
The National Standards Authority of Ireland recently provided training to people with disabilities, disability organisations and people involved in developing national and international standards as part of a European Commission’s “Stand4All” project and Eoin O’Herlihy of O’Herlihy Access Consultancy was delighted to be involved as one of the trainers on this programme.
The aim of the “Stand4All” project is to provide training for persons with disabilities to increase their effective participation in the standardisation process and training for experts in standardisation to increase their awareness and knowledge of accessibility issues faced by persons with disabilities.
One of the main objectives of the training is to highlight the importance of implementing CEN Guide 6 in the Standardisation process. CEN Guide 6 is a set of Guidelines for standards developers to address the needs of older persons and persons with disabilities. The guidelines provide a number of factors to consider in the design process and also provide a number of Tables of factors to consider to ensure standards provide for accessible design.
