National Disability Authority launch new document entitled ‘Safe Evacuation for All’
The National Disability Authority (NDA) launched the first edition of ‘Promoting safe egress and evacuation for people with disabilities’ in 2008. The document was amended in 2009 and following success of both versions of this document the NDA have recently published another document in this area entitled ‘Safe Evacuation for All’ (March 2011).
The new version of the publication has been largely rewritten, and is aimed at those involved in planning and managing safe evacuation from buildings for employees and visitors. This includes facilities and accommodation staff, health and safety staff, architects, fire engineers, building control officers, access officers, human resource professionals and others.
The document is not intended to be a technical guideline but aims to assist those listed above and anyone else (i.e. disability organisations) involved in the area of safe evacuation of all people (despite their ability – age, size or disability). The document provides guidance on:
- The preparation of evacuation plans and policies
- Day to day management of buildings relating to safe egress
- The importance of staff training
- Equipment and facilities
- Building Design
Download a copy of the document. If you would like further information on any of the above information or need further assistance in relation to designing accessible buildings, please do not hesitate to contact one of our team on 01-4151285 or e-mail [email protected].
