Access to Hotels for People with Hearing Loss
The Inclusive Hotels Network (IHN) & Chris Harrowell published a guidance document entitled “Access to Hotels for People with Hearing Loss” in November 2016.
The guide describes the range of difficulties currently faced by Hotel customers with varying degrees of hearing loss and provides guidance and ideas for making hotels more inclusive.
The guide also highlights how good accessibility in a hotel environment will benefit all people and can result in improved business.
In addition, several recommendations are provided for consideration when designing inclusive hotels and facilities. Recommendations are listed and described under the following three headings, Built Environment, Technology and Management.
Some of the examples under the three headings include.
- Built Environment- Ensuring that reception desks and information points are clearly lit and the faces of staff are clearly identifiable.
- Technology - Ensuring that Hearing enhancement systems are installed at receptions, information and service counters, and in meeting and conference areas in the Hotel.
- Management- Ensuring that Accessible facilities are publicised as mainstream on the hotel website and in hotel literature.
