Public Service Providers and the Disability Act 2005
Are you a public service provider? If so how are you implementing the requirements of the Disability Act 2005? Are you aware of the key requirements and how are you achieving these. The Disability Act 2005 sets out a number of key obligations in Part 3. These include:
- Appointing an Access Officer as the direct point of contact with people with disability wishing to access your success.
- Appointing an Inquiry Officer to deal with complaints that people with disabilities may have relating to lack of access services.
- Ensuring the public areas of your public buildings as accessible by 2015.
- Ensuring that accessibility is considered in all procurement exercises.
- Providing accessible information. This includes written information, videos, events, face to face meetings and websites to name a few.
- Making protected structures and historic buildings accessible to all where practicable.
