National University of Ireland, Galway
In April 2009, O’Herlihy Access Consultancy (OHAC) assisted in the provision of the following three construction projects at National University of Ireland, Galway:
- An extension to the Clinical Science Institute in the UCHG campus for a Translational Research Facility.
- An extension to the James Hardiman Library (a protected structure) for a Research Library.
- A stand-alone hi-technology Bio-Science Multipurpose Research Innovation Centre.
After OHAC carried out a design appraisal of proposed plans for the buildings in early 2009, and assessed the potential usability and accessibility of the finished building, a report was drafted highlighting best practice requirements, design improvements and the overall accessibility of the buildings in relation to the existing Part M of the Building Regulations.
The proposed plans were then amended and accessibility was incorporated into all designs.
