Ensuring accessibility is embedded into Facility and Property Management - Half Day Course
About the Programme
This workshop has been designed for all those involved in Facilities Management and Property Management. The workshop will introduce participants to the concepts of accessibility and Universal Design and will outline how Facility and Property Managers can ensure their buildings, facilities and property portfolio is accessible. It will also outline relevant legislative requirements that must be considered by facilities and property managers.
The following topics will be addressed during the workshop: Why accessibility is important; how to ensure accessibility is part of on-going maintenance and repairs of existing buildings; Accessibility Due Diligence Audits and Reports; the importance of pre-visitor information; embedding accessibility in the day to day management of the built environment; Part M 2010 and the Disability Access Certificate application process.
Aim
The aim of this course is to equip participants with an understanding of the concepts of Universal Accessibility, Universal Design and access to the built and external environment particularly relating to facility and property management.
The content is particularly beneficial to facility managers, property managers, health and safety officers, building surveyors, fire officers, those involved in building consultancy and anyone with an interest in facility and property management.

Key Outcomes
Participants who successfully complete this course will:
- Understand the key amendments to Part M 2010 and have an increased awareness of the implications of TGD M 2010 on the design of existing buildings, new buildings, extensions, material alterations and certain material changes of use;
- Strengthen their knowledge of the Disability Act 2005, Part M of the Building Regulations and other relevant built environment legislation;
- Understand the concepts of Universal Accessibility, Universal Design and access to the built and external environment;
- Identify how to embed accessibility in the day to day management of their building portfolio.
- Have gained knowledge on how to ensure accessibility is part of on-going maintenance and repairs within existing buildings and environs;
- Understand how to assess the accessibility of their facilities and carry out an accessibility due diligence audit;
- Be able to prepare an access action plan to ensure that accessibility is embedded into work plans.
