Wexford County Council
In 2008, O’Herlihy Access Consultancy was engaged by Wexford County Council to assist in the development of an access policy and implementation plan to ensure Wexford County Council met the requirements of the Disability Act 2005. The work undertaken by OHAC included:
- Carrying out a detailed accessibility services review to assess compliance with national legislation and international best practice in relation to accessible service delivery.
- Delivering a presentation to the County Councillors on why accessibility is important and outlining the national legal requirements of the Council in relation to the delivery of an accessible service.
- Development of a detailed action/implementation plan in line with the requirements of the Disability Act 2005.
Since 2008 OHAC has assisted the Council in a number of ways including:
- Carrying out access audits on a number of buildings.
- Provision of accessibility training to technical staff including planners, area engineers, roads and street engineers and building control officers.
- Provision of disability and equality training to Librarians and administrative staff.
- Assisting the Access Officer on numerous occasions in relation to technical queries on accessibility including detailed design appraisals.
- Provided guidance and support to a number of staff to ensure accessibility was implemented within the organisation.
- The delivery of accessibility training on how to make heritage buildings and heritage sites accessible to all.
