Procurement and Accessibility - Half Day Course
About the Programme
According to the European Commission having clear standards that define functional requirements for accessibility to be used in public procurement can facilitate a policy for the prevention of accessibility barriers. The Disability Act 2005 also requires public procurers to incorporate accessibility in the procurement process. This workshop addresses mainstreaming accessibility in the procurement of:
- Products and services (i.e. Transport services, Security services, Training, Office equipment).
- Built environment projects (i.e. going beyond the Part M, ensuring accessibility is considered at all stages of projects).

Information and communication technology (i.e. websites, ticket machines and smart card tickets, public computers, kiosks, and other public access terminals).
Aim
This course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to ensure accessibility is considered and integrated into all procurement policies, practices, procedures and public procurement exercises as and when required.

Key Outcomes
Learners who successfully complete this course will:
- Acquire a working knowledge of disability and equality legislation and how it relates to their organisation.
- Acquire a working knowledge of procurement legislation and how it affects accessibility within their organisation.
- Identify the barriers faced by people when accessing services (i.e. customer services, information and buildings) and how to remove these barriers.
- Understand the policies and procedures required to make the procurement process within their organisation accessible.

Strengthen their knowledge of Universal Design, particularly in how it applies procurement.
